How smart is it to give an already ‘limited’ room a color scheme anchored in black and white? The answer to that question would be ‘very smart’, if you can get the balance between the two hues right and the lighting spot on. No matter what color you use in the powder room, poor lighting can give this small space a dark and dreary look. This could very well start you off on a cycle of constant redecorating and repainting without ever realizing that the real issue at hand is poor lighting. A sparkling chandelier coupled with clever ambient lighting is the ideal way forward in the black and white powder room.
Summer and tropical style is a match made in design heaven, and it is barely a surprise that as each time the warmer months roll in, everyone wants to tap into a bit of tropical richness and beauty. Once again, you need not completely alter the style of the bathroom and adopt a tropical-centric look just for the sake of a few months. Instead, usher in elements from the style like lush green plants with their giant leaves, natural finishes like bamboo blinds or a rattan stool, or maybe lighting fixtures inspired by the tropics. Mixing modern and tropical styles is pretty easy, and often the result is truly spectacular.
A beautiful chandelier adds glamour and brings a sense of opulence to the room without altering its color scheme. Styles such as Victorian, Art Deco, Hollywood Regency and even eclectic definitely need this sparkly touch to really give the black and white powder room that unmistakable allure. Add in a couple of chic sconces next to the mirror, and you have a powder room with a ‘high-end’ feel!
Powder rooms are usually small, with the ultra-tiny ones barely having enough space for a person to squeeze in and make a proper turn inside! But we have been lucky enough to stumble upon a few powder rooms that are larger than some of the more modest bathrooms we have come across! If you are blessed with that amount of space, feel free to go more ornate with your Victorian overhaul. 3D wall paintings and wall art are always welcome here as long as they fit in with the broader, more classical theme, and bright colors can be used more freely inside these larger spaces.
If you’re longing for your powder room to have the relaxing feel of a spa, you’re not alone. In fact, designers are increasingly focused on this space, elevating it with eye-catching trends such as brass fixtures and modern seating. While special features can really take your powder room up a notch, simply organizing the space can be the first (and most effective) step in creating the spa vibe you’re after.
This one is a bit trickier than others, and if you are not really the most organized person around, it might be tricky to pull off. Open vanities are currently a hot trend, and they do appear lovely in those picture-perfect bathrooms with neatly folded and stacked towels on display. Open vanities also give a small bathroom or powder room a spacious visual appeal and help in fashioning a clutter-free environment. All that is of course only true if you do not have a ton of items from hair dryers to a lineup of beauty products to tuck away! If you have enough shelf space elsewhere though, the open vanity is a welcome addition.
